ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Khenpo Samdup
Khenpo Samdup comes to Gar Drolma from Jangchubling Monastery in India. Khenpo is a scholar and teacher with extensive study in Buddhist philosophy and teaching experience at Kagyu College in India. Khenpo Samdup is originally from the Gar region of Tibet and is a long-time student of His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche. His complete biography will be available on our website later this winter. |

Tsunma Rinchen Khandro
Tsunma Rinchen Khandro comes to Gar Drolma from Samtenling Nunnery in India. Tsunma Rinchen Khandro is a meditation instructor with extensive experience in solitary retreat. In 2007 His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche chose her to come to the United States. Please click here for Tsunma's biography. |

Time: 10:30–11:45am
Tuition: $25-40 sliding scale for entire course
Khenpo Samdup will discuss Buddha Nature, the 4 Nobel Truths, Buddhist View, Conduct, and the 2 Truths. This class will be taught for beginners. |

GONG CHIK CLASS
Meets: Tuesday & Thursday evenings
Dates: Feb 23, 25 & Mar 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25
Time: 7–8:30pm
Tuition: $40-75 sliding scale for entire course
Registration: at the door
In this class Khenpo Samdup will teach from the classical Buddhist text called Gong Chik. The Gong Chik is a compilation of the essential aspects of Buddhism written by Lord Jigten Sumgon– founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage. This class is suitable for both beginning and intermediate-level students. |
MEDITATION CLASSES

PERSONAL MEDITATION TRAINING
Meets: Mondays | Feb 22 & Mar 1, 3, 8, 15, 22 OR
Wednesdays | Feb 24 & Mar 3, 10, 17, 24
Time: 1/2 hr sessions between 7–8:30pm
Tuition: $20-40 sliding scale for entire course

During the Meditation Tsunma Rinchen Khandro will work individually with students of all levels of experience to provide training in meditation. If you have no experience with meditation, Tsunma will work with you on Calm-Abiding meditation to simply quiet the mind. If you have a little more experience and have a particular practice you would like to work on, please let Tsunma know which practice at the time of registration. If you are somewhere in between - just bring your questoins to Tsunma and she will guide you.

CHILDREN'S CLASS

WISDOM CLASS for kids ages 9-16
Meets: Sunday afternoons | Feb 28 & Mar 7, 14, 21, 28
Time: 2-3 pm
Tuition & Registration: none
Khenpo will teach children basic Buddhist thought and practice. Parents should plan to remain at the temple for the duration of the class. All children, regardless of spiritual background, are welcome. |

SCHEDULE FAQ
I cannot sit on the floor, will I be able to sit in a chair?
We sit on cushions at the center. In addition, we have pews available. If you would like to bring a different seat, you are welcome to do so.
Will I need to sit perfectly still during meditation?
In the tradition of Buddhism founda at Gar Drolma it is not necessary to sit perfectly still in order to participate in meditation or other events.
Do I need to be a Buddhist to attend Gar Drolma
Not at all! No previous experience with Buddhism is necessary in order to attend practices. And it is not necessary to "become a Buddhist" in order to attend.
How do I know if the center is open during bad weather?
In the unlikely event that the weather is very extreme we may cancel Sunday morning practice. Please stay tuned to the home page of this website for such announcements.
What types of people are welcome at the center?
We are an open and inclusive sangha, and do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, income, sexual orientation or political orientation. We are a very diverse group of people with members from many walks of life.
Are there any rules I should know about before coming to the center?
We ask individuals to abstain from alcohol or illicit drugs at any dharma-related function at Gar Drolma Choling.
May I bring my kids to the center?
Our events are open to children.
